The LPGA in the news
In the news today, I heard something that I found extremely odd for this day in age. Apparently the LPGA (for those unaware of the acronym it is the Ladies Professional Golf Association) has decided that in order for a woman (or teenage girl) to be on the Professional Tour they must be able to speak the English language. They are not concerned whether you can play golf better than the other women on the Tour, which would seem to be a very important criteria. When we look at all the other professional sports leagues in the USA (MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, etc.) they all have certain players that have trouble speaking English. In fact, there are quite alot of foreign players that did not know any English when they started their professional careers. This is why I find it so odd that the LPGA would even bring an issue like this up. I just don't understand the logic. This country was founded by people from generations ago that came from all over the world. Many of whom did not speak English (or it was their second language). Today it seems even more so that we have a very large percentage of US citizens that speak English as their second language as well (if even at all). So why then would an entity as large and as popular in the United States of America as the LPGA is even bring this issue up as a topic of discussion. It actually embarrasses me, quite honestly.
